Our Faculty Members Participated in the Panel

Our department chair, Prof. Dr. Oktay Özgül; Prof. Dr. Mehmet Güneş, a faculty member of our department; and our department vice chair, Dr. Cihan Yalvar, along with the History and Culture Society—led by the Yalova University Center for Applied Research on the Turkic World and the National Will and Social Consciousness Club— Young TEMA, the Turkic World Culture Society, YUNİASUB, and ASAP, attented the “Pioneering Figures of the Turkic World: Ideas, Identity, and Civilization" panel.

The program began on Wednesday, May 6, at 1:30 p.m. with the “Unveiling Ceremony of the Martyrs’ Memorial Forest” held at the nursery on the Mosque Construction Site. Prayers were offered for all our beloved martyrs, particularly our heroic police officers Turgut Külünk, Yasin Koçyiğit, and İlker Pehlivan. Following the tree-planting ceremony, the event moved to the Rectorate Conference Hall for the panel discussion. Due to the hall being completely full, many students and participants followed the panel standing. The panelists’ presentations, which addressed Turkish consciousness and national values, were followed with great interest in the hall. During the panel, Prof. Dr. Taner Tatar discussed the sociological foundations of nationhood through an analysis of Ziya Gökalp and national identity. Subsequently, our department chair, Prof. Dr. Oktay Özgül, addressed the vision of the Turkic world in the works of Hüseyin Nihal Atsız; Prof. Dr. Mehmet Güneş, discussed Yusuf Akçura’s strategic moves and historical vision on the path to the Turan ideal, and our department vice chair, Dr. Cihan Yalvar, emphasized the importance of İsmail Gaspıralı’s motto “Unity in Language, Thought, and Action” in the modern world. 

At the conclusion of the panel, plaques and gifts were presented to the academic panel by the dignitaries in attendance. Among those who presented gifts to the professors who participated in the program and gave presentations were the following individuals:  Yalova Provincial Deputy Police Chief Mr. Metin Çetin, AK Party Yalova Provincial Youth Branch Chairman Mr. Canay Caner, Yalova Ülkü Ocakları Provincial Chairman Mr. Furkan Beydilli, Yalova Türkav Chairman Mr. Serdar Uğur, Yalova Public -Sen Chairman Mr. Mustafa Deviren, Karamürsel Ülkü Ocakları District Chairman Mr. Salih Garaca, Bursa Ülkü Ocakları Provincial Deputy Chairman Responsible for Universities Mr. Erol Kotra, and Kocaeli Ülkü Ocakları Provincial Deputy Chairman Responsible for Universities Mr. Alperen Akkaya. At the end of the program, a dombra performance was given by Ayim Serikkızı, a Kazakhstani student studying at our university. Following the musical performance, the club presidents—who were partners in the organization—and all participants were invited to the stage for a group photo.
