Major Support for Cultural Heritage from the Department of History at Yalova University as Part of a TÜBİTAK Project!

The Department of History at Yalova University achieved a major success under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A Research Project Support Program for University Students. The project titled “An Identity Across Six Villages from the 1864 Circassian Exile to the Present: A Field Study on Tradition, Language, and Cultural Continuity Among the Circassians of Yalova,” prepared under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhsin ÖNAL, has been awarded funding by TÜBİTAK.

Project leaders Nilüfer SAVAŞIR, Eyüp Bilal ACAR, Tuğçe BAYRAKDAR, and Eslem BAŞKAN will trace the legacy of Circassian culture, which holds a significant place in Yalova’s historical fabric. The study, which will examine the construction of identity that has taken shape in six different villages of Yalova since the great exile of 1864 within the context of language, tradition, and cultural continuity, aims to contribute original field data to the academic literature.

The young researchers from the History Department will contribute to social memory by documenting not only the past but also today’s living culture through this project.
