The Eurasian Symposium on History, Language, and Cultural Studies, hosted by Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Manas University, was held with broad international participation.
The symposium, in which the Turkish Historical Society, Ankara University’s Faculty of Letters, and the Atatürk Cultural, Language, and History Higher Council participated as partners, addressed issues in the fields of history, culture, language, and archaeology within the Turkic World.
During the symposium, our department chair, Prof. Dr. Oktay Özgül, presented a paper titled “The Issue of Chronology and Origin in Rock Art of the Turkic World.”
In his presentation, our department chair comprehensively addressed the issue of chronology and origin in the rock art of the Turkic world and provided information on new methodologies in the dating of rock art.
He emphasized that rock art in the Turkic world serves not only as artistic expressions but also as historical documents.
He noted that these visual artworks could serve as primary sources for understanding the intellectual world of early Turkic tribes and constitute important data for comprehending the scope of communication among them.
He stated that the geographical distribution of motifs plays a critical role in revealing historical connections.
Our professor, who emphasized the need to re-examine chronological debates using interdisciplinary methods, noted that the joint evaluation of Archaeology, art history, and other historical disciplines is essential in this new field.
The presentation was followed with great interest by the participants.
Our professor’s comments were among the significant contributions that strengthened the foundation for scientific discussion at the symposium.
