Dr. Cihan YALVAR, Assistant Professor and Deputy Chair of the Department of History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Yalova University, attended the second meeting of 2026 held on June 23, 2026, by the Yalova Intangible Cultural Heritage (SOKÜM) Identification Committee, of which he is a member. Chaired by E. Fatih Bayram, Director of the Yalova Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, the meeting addressed initiatives to be undertaken for the preservation, documentation, and inventory of Yalova’s intangible cultural heritage, as well as its transmission to future generations. The meeting also featured an exchange of views on projects and initiatives that will contribute to keeping the province’s cultural memory alive. Committee members evaluated a roadmap for the identification, documentation, and sustainable preservation of Yalova’s traditional cultural elements in accordance with the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The participation of our Department Vice Chair, Dr. Cihan YALVAR, in the council’s activities also contributes to the continuation of our department’s academic initiatives in the fields of local history, cultural heritage, and oral history in collaboration with public institutions. In this context, our department will continue to support efforts to document Yalova’s cultural heritage using scientific methods and to pass it on to future generations.
